When I first heard about this competition, an idea sprang into my head about what I should include in my poster. I chose to incorporate two hands holding the shape of Israel. In the middle, I chose to draw the flag of Israel instead of the landscape. The outline is made up of words that I think are the building blocks of Israel. This is really important to me because this poster shows my interpretation of Israel. I think that Israel is the home of Jews around the world. It is the one place where you know that there will be fellow Jews who you can freely talk with. In the world outside of Israel, it can be risky to talk about any aspect of being Jewish, but when you are in Israel, the weight of the worry lifts off you. Israel is the home base, the place of community and kindness. The place that our ancestors, and our family, call home. The message I am trying to convey is that Israel may seem far away, but in reality it is in each one of us. Israel is with us at all times, including the spirit of the people there. All Jews hold Israel in their hands, and in their hearts. The primary source that inspired me was looking at all the past posters. The primary sources helped shape and refine my idea, they gave me inspiration to fix the missing pieces.
