Hamentashen, Sufganiyot, the shofar, shabbat candles, the kippah and the Israeli flag are the items I chose to put inside the Magen David (the Jewish Star). These show different symbols of what Judaism means to me. For example, the Israeli flag is important to me because it represents Israel and the original land that we came from. Every time I see the flag, I am reminded of who I am and my homeland. I love hamentashen and love Purim and they represent this holiday that I really enjoy, I love dressing up in costumes, playing games. I love the story of the Megillah and this has been a holiday that I have celebrated since I was a little child so it has extra meaning for me. For me, Israel plays the role of sharing interesting stories from many years ago, holidays we get to celebrate and it shows all of the things that have to do with fun. When I think of Judaism, I think of the stories from the Tanakh...whether it is Breishit, Shmuel or Devarim. These stories have shaped who we are and the Land of Israel has such a big role in these stories. The land represents the perseverance of the Nation of Israel to always keep going. Israel plays the role of strength for the Jewish world. It doesn't give up and always tries hard to find a peaceful land and a peaceful people. There is no giving up no matter what.
