My art piece was created using watercolor, collage, Hebrew newspapers, and ink. I used yellow to represent the Kotel and peace. I made the dove and Israel the focus of my art to show their importance. I used different sizes of rectangles to show the Kotel wall and make my piece visually interesting. It ties into the Jewish world because it shows the Kotel. The Kotel is a big place for Jews of all kinds to come together and pray. ISR is the abbreviation of Israel and Israel is important to this piece because it is Israel's Independence Day and Israel is our Jewish home for all Jews. One of the messages I am trying to show is freedom for the Jews as well as pride of your Jewish heritage. The dove symbolizes both of these ideas. My other message is that there are all different types of Jews, some big, some small, some more religious than others but in the end they are Jews together, just like the stones on the Kotel. The primary source I used was the Israel Poster, 1970s which is a photograph of a Dove perched on a Magen David in front of a brick wall. This poster inspired because because it is a strong image that made me think of freedom, peace, and celebration of Judaism. I wanted to capture the spirit of the photo, and recreate it using other mediums.
